One of the first articles posted on ConspiracyofGood.com was about the Limbs for Life Foundation, an organization I learned about because I like Beatles music. (Read the story here.)
I saw an article a couple of weeks ago about another organization, the Jordan Thomas Foundation. It offers similar to help. Thomas was an athletic teen in 2005 when a boat propeller chewed up his legs, but he was back on new feet quickly thanks to good insurance and a financially-healthy family. While he was in the hospital, however, he realized many others have different situations.
“I just remember seeing so many kids who didn’t have parents, didn’t have health care,” he told CNN. “I just knew that the future was grim for them.”
If you read the story about Limbs for Life, you’ll understand why I also like this organization: Both provide direct help to people who need it. Doing good things, one person at a time, is a great idea.
There are 1.8 million amputees in the world, according to recent statistics, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to help someone, too. If this isn’t the cause about which you are passionate, I see two choices: Choose a cause that does make you passionate — or get excited about this one.
