Cameron Brown and Brett Westcott, better known as the “Compliment Guys”, are on a mission to give as many compliments as possible to help people “look on the brightside”, as they say. From July 20 through July 31, the Compliment Guys traveled up the east coast on a 10-City BrightSide Tour — from New Orleans to New York (with sponsorship by Kodak, which must have made them even more cheerful). More cities are coming soon, I hope.
Westcott, who came up with the idea of handing out free compliments, is an engineering major at Perdue University. Brown is a management junior there and Westcott’s friend. Last year, at least one of the two stood in the center of campus for two hours every Wednesday giving out free compliments to those who passed.
“This trip will allow us to share the same good feelings with people around the country that we have exchanged at Purdue,” Westcott told Lafayette Online.
They got international attention, appearing on “Good Morning America” and Oprah. Jay Leno, someone from the Ellen DeGeneres Show, USA Today, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and ABC and Fox News also contacted the students.
It’s nice to see media all around the world covering two guys who have something nice to say. They didn’t have to say anything at all.
