2012 Lincoln Navigator Review
The 2012 Lincoln Navigator is a luxury SUV with three rows of seats and room for eight. This high-end vehicle comes with many amenities that aren’t standard on its closest relative, the less-plush Ford Expedition.
A few new features add to this model’s technological convenience and help drivers see better.
New for 2012, the Navigator is available with Sync AppLink so drivers with smart phones can have voice control over some features. Tech-savvy consumers will likely find this feature the most important change from previous models of the Navigator.
Another change, however, increases this offerings safety.
New spotter mirrors are the most important improvement from a safety standpoint. This large vehicle has plenty of blind spots, but these new mirrors reduce them dramatically. A backup camera is also standard.
A stability system that helps prevent rolls is standard, too, and side curtain airbags keep passengers in all three rows as safe as possible in the event of a crash.
Other important features to note include a power liftgate, power-folding third row seats and the easy-to-use navigation system that comes standard on the Navigator. The power-adjustable pedals are a nice touch too.
The Navigator’s 310 horsepower, 5.4 liter V-8 engine means it still gets relatively low gas mileage, but this vehicle is designed for comfort, not economy. The six-speed automatic transmission makes driving simple and responsive.
Standard cooled and heated front seats add to the luxurious feel of the vehicle and keep passengers who are dressed for business looking fresh, even after long trips. Satellite radio and the 14-speaker audio system keep people who are along for the ride entertained on long hauls too.
Competing vehicles with similar configurations include the Infiniti QX56 and the Cadillac Escalade, and this offering from Lincoln holds its own against these popular models and any others to which drivers care to compare it.
Some reviewers have noted that the interior trim pieces and gauges are more ornate than they need to be. This is a luxury vehicle, however, and like the wood accents found throughout the cabin, this kind of lush ornamentation is expected and enjoyed by most drivers.
On the outside, rain-sensing wipers and a capless fuel system add to the upgraded experience.
Ford’s innovative MyKey system is included as well, allowing drivers to set volume and speed limits based on which key is in use, a great feature for those sharing the 2012 Lincoln Navigator with a teenager.
This vehicle is also beefy enough to tow 9,000 pounds. A Navigator L model is also available with a longer wheelbase for those who want even more vehicle.
The 2012 Lincoln Navigator carries a price tag that is in line with its competitors and not at all unreasonable given the level of luxury and the number of amenities included.
For drivers with large families or plenty of business associates who require entertaining and transporting in style, the Lincoln Navigator is a luxurious and comfortable way to hit the road.
