Bladder Cancer Attorneys: Why Is There So Much Talk About Them?

If you’ve recently noticed lots of online ads and television commercials related to finding a bladder cancer attorney, you’re not alone. These ads are popping up everywhere.

There must be a reason, right?

Here’s why there’s so much talk about bladder cancer attorneys these days.

Actos Bladder Cancer Concerns

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a warning in mid-2011 indicating that the drug Actos, a brand of pioglitazone, has been linked in some patients to bladder cancer. The link was noticed in some patients who had used the drug for more than a year.

Pioglitazone is marketed as Actos in the United States as well as in Canada, the United Kingdom and some other countries. The same drug may be known as Glustin in Europe or Glizone or Pioz in India.

This link between the drug and bladder cancer has caused particular concern among diabetics because Actos is prescribed for type 2 diabetics who have trouble controlling their blood sugar levels.

Because of the FDA link between pioglitazone and bladder cancer, the Warnings and Precautions section of the label of any products marketed in the U.S. that contains this drug will now provide wording that indicating this risk.

Who Needs a Bladder Cancer Lawyer?

Only a very specific segment of people have a reason to contact a bladder cancer lawyer. While there is not yet any indication that money can be successfully recovered from the drug maker or anyone else because of this link, only those who have or had bladder cancer and also took Actos or a related drug have a reason for concern.

While some lawyers and consumer groups may try to scare those who have taken the drug into thinking that they are likely to develop bladder cancer, the majority of the people who take the drug will never have this cancer.

In addition, there are other causes of bladder cancer, including smoking, that help account for the thousands of cases of this disease each year.

Choose Your Bladder Cancer Attorney with Care

Because the link between bladder cancer and Actos has been well publicized, ads promoting bladder cancer lawyer services are likely to become even more prolific.

While there’s nothing wrong with choosing a lawyer because of an ad, it’s still a good idea to check out any lawyer you’re considering through the Better Business Bureau, the state bar and professional organizations before making any commitments.

While the risk of bladder cancer from pioglitazone is serious, there’s no reason for those who have taken the drug to panic or make a hasty legal decision.
