Winix WAC9500 Review: When You’re Serious About Pet Dander Air Purifiers

When it’s time to get serious about cleaning the air in your pet-friendly home, the Winix WAC9500 air purifier is the serious machine you need for this serious business. Many homes with pets are filled with smells, hair and dander, but they don’t have to be.

Those who’ve tried the WAC9500 pet dander air purifier usually find it superior to other models they’ve tried, and that’s no surprise. This unit is intended to be a step up from those cheap, poorly constructed models made by other companies that make a lot of noise but don’t clean a lot of air.

I hope this Winix WAC9500 review shows you that this air cleaner is the best choice for your bedroom, family room, large office or anyplace else where you want noticeably cleaner air.

My Winix WAC9500 Air Purifier Review

I don’t pay much attention to manufacturer’s proprietary terms and catchphrases, so the company doesn’t impress me by saying the Winix WAC9500 Ultimate Pet True HEPA Air Cleaner — available from Amazon — has “PlasmaWave Technology”.

I’m impressed, however, when I find an air purifier that actually works like this one does.

Significantly better than those small machines intended only for small room, the Winix WAC9500 has the size and power to handle big rooms with ease. In addition to true HEPA filtration and carbon filtration to help eliminate odors, this unit comes with an anti-microbial pre-filter that catches hair and other large particles before they can get to the HEPA filter. This makes it one of the best pet dander air purifiers for large rooms you’ll find.

The unit is particularly good with smoke and cooking odors as well.

The washable odor-controlling carbon filter is responsible for clearing up those weird smells. The pre-filter, also washable, handles most large particles in addition to catching hair and other things you’d probably rather not know are in the air you breathe.

That so-called PlasmaWave technology the company promotes involves positive and negative ions that cluster particles and make them easier to filter away — or something like that. Like I said, I’m only impressed with the fact it works. The details don’t matter much to me.

I know this, however: In all, your air passes through five filters in the Winix WAC9500 before going back into your room and ultimately your lungs.

Even better, special sensors in the unit help it automatically adjust to your room’s specific conditions. No matter where you place the unit, you can be sure the unit is checking to make sure it’s working optimally.

You’ll need to replace the HEPA filter to maintain the effectiveness of the unit, but you’ll probably only need to do this once a year in most environments. An indicator on the unit tells you when this filter needs replacing. All other filters are washable and reusable. Even though HEPA filters may seem a bit expensive, they’re sturdily made — and you’re paying only a couple of coins per day for noticeably cleaner air.

An included remote control is a nice bonus, but you’ll probably find that you don’t often adjust the unit’s settings. Still, the remote is a nice thing to have.

I’m also surprised how efficiently the unit uses power, according to longtime users of the unit.

Summing Up

If you can’t tell, I like this unit. The Winix WAC9500 Ultimate Pet True HEPA Air Cleaner with PlasmaWave Technology is a significant step up from many other air cleaners and is surely one of the best pet dander air purifiers on the market.

Households with pets have dirty air unless you take action to clean it up. With the Winix WAC9500, you’re taking as much action as you possibly can. And you’re getting results that are better than you thought possible.
